Manipal foundation has entered into MOU with Edurite Tutorials to equip educated unemployed youth ( candidates who are passed/failed in Class Ten and above) in suburbs of Bangalore with skills to enable them to get employment.The course objective is to provide education and skills in such a way that the Rural Poor Youth are able to find a job in the retail sector. Only candidates with family income levels below Rs.1 lac per annum are eligible to be part of this programme.
The first batch of students were enrolled and the programme has commenced on 18.9.09. It is a five week course. There would be periodic reviews and the candidates performance would be monitored throughout the program.The students will be taught selling skills, customer service, basic computer skills and spoken English.
At the end of the course all successful candidates will be placed in the retail sector like Food World, Spencers, etc.
The candidates are charged a nominal sum of Rs.500/- for a course fee of Rs.10000/-. The balance amount is being shared by Manipal Foundation and Edurite Tutorials.
This is going to be an ongoing facility and it is hoped that more and more youngsters are benefited by this
So far, 80 candidates have been trained and successfully placed in various retail outlets.
A similar inititave is in place at Mumbai where 225 unemployed youth are being trained and offered job placements in retail outlets in Mumbai and the city suburbs.
Our New initiatives in the field of education
- Charity begins at home. For the second year now, children of the lower level employees of Manipal University have been receiving special coaching from Class 9 onwards to enable them to score better marks in their 10th board exams. After 10th, they are being given special coaching to appear for the entrance exams for admission to professional courses. This is an initiative of Manipal Foundation to provide the children from these families a fair chance to make it big in life.
The initiative has been welcomed by students and parents alike. Enthused by the success of this programme it is being considered to extend this facility to the students of government schools in various parts of Karnataka.
- In a bid to upgrade the skills of employees Manipal Foundation is supporting a programme for imparting spoken English skills to the employees of Manipal University.Around 150 employees are getting the benefit of this initiative.
