Manipal University probably has the largest #s of Alumni among all the educational institutions in India and may be the world, barring a few of the very large, older US Universities.
This extraordinary pool of human talent and resources, have not been fully tapped in the past for the overall improvement of the University in particular and mankind in general. There could be several reasons for an Alumni to shun his/her old Almamater, but the crucial one is the feeling of Non Involvment.
In the coming years, Manipal Foundation with the support of Manipal University, is going to take an active and leading role to bridge this gap, with at least one Alumni meet a year to be sponsored internally and providing a platform for the Alumni to be fully involved in the various functions and activities of the University. Further, plans are afoot to regularly recognize outstanding Alumni and also give them an opportunity to share their experience and thoughts with the current batch of students.
An initial funding of Rs 2- 3 Million is earmarked this year alone, to make a beginning.
